Sell Jewelry

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you determine the value of jewelry?  We examine every item individually to note its content in precious metal, diamonds and gemstones. We look for reasons to pay extra, such as famous maker marks or other valuable provenance which would increase our offer. Being constantly in the marketplace enables us to determine both salability and value.

Is there a cost to know what you’d offer?  No. We are a consumer service as well as jewelry buyers. David and Steven welcome the opportunity to offer our expertise in hope of buying your jewelry. Naturally, if any items need to be returned, they will be sent fully insured at our expense.

Do we pay retail value?  That would not be realistic. Consumers, end users, always pay retail. We are a preliminary step in bringing valued items of all different kinds back into the market to be re-sold to consumers. While we do not pay retail, we offer the highest, competitive market prices. Sometimes these prices will be surprisingly high. Luxury and brand name items are always sought by us. Diamonds can certainly have a high resale value depending on size and quality.

Do you buy coins?  We buy all types of gold, silver and platinum coins. Currency, bullion and commemoratives of both USA and International types are all of interest.

Can we expect more at an auction? Auctions certainly have their place, but consider the time you wait for an auction to be held and the substantial buyer and the seller premiums which are always deducted from your net proceeds. Often a seller ends up with less than an outright sale price. On rare occasions, an auction result may be unusually high, but one cannot depend on that rare chance. An auction usually needs to have your items three months before the auction takes place. If the item sells, you’ll have to wait yet another month to be paid. We offer and pay immediately.

How long have you been in business?David Atlas is the grandson of the founder of D. Atlas & Co., Inc, established in 1898, and has been in the family jewelry business since 1967. Steven has been an estate jewelry entrepreneur and dealer since the mid 1970’s. These two individuals have travelled extensively together and independently, both domestically and internationally, to better understand the intricacies of the estate jewelry market.
